Oryx antelopes can survive extreme temperatures for a while because a plexus of veins on their carotid artery functions like a heat exchanger. The blood cooled in the nose cools the artery before the blood flows to the brain.

Northeast Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan, Tanzania).
The IUCN Red List lists the Beisa Oryx as "Endangered".
