Habitat
Alpine grasslands, shrub steppes and forests in the high mountains, in summer above the tree line and below the snow line at altitudes of about 2,700 to 5,000 m, in winter also at lower altitudes.
Geographical Range
High mountain regions of Asia: Altai, Tian Shan, Kunlun Mountains, Pamir, Hindu Kush, Karakoram and Himalaya.
Status
Snow leopards are "Vulnerable" according to the Red List of the IUCN.
Population
approx. 2,700-3,386 adult individuals, trend: decreasing
