The harpy is one of the largest birds of prey in the world and is probably the physically strongest bird of prey. The name harpy (Harpia harpyja) is borrowed from Greek mythology. The harpies of the Greeks were bird-like demons of the storm.

100,000 - 250,000 adults, decreasing trend.
